Patients treated in Miami are cared for by the same surgical team as our New York office. The team travels from NYC to Miami, ensuring consistent standards, protocols, and clinical experience across both locations.

All procedures are performed by Alexander Movshovich, MD, PhD, Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medicine and one of the most experienced keratopigmentation surgeons worldwide.

What Is Keratopigmentation?

Keratopigmentation is a corneal procedure that changes the visible color of the eyes by placing pigment within the cornea, in front of your natural iris color.

  • The pigment is placed inside the cornea, not inside the eye
  • The iris, lens, and internal eye structures are not opened
  • A femtosecond laser creates a precise corneal tunnel for controlled pigment placement
  • A specialized set of surgical instruments designed by Dr. Movshovich allows precise control of pigment placement, including limbal ring and intensity adjustments.

This design helps avoid the intraocular risks associated with iris implants or internal eye surgery while providing a permanent color change.

Eye Color Change Pre-Procedure Eye Exam in Miami

Every patient begins with a Pre-Procedure Eye Exam. This required in-person visit ensures two things:

  1. Keratopigmentation is medically safe and appropriate for your eyes, and
  2. Your desired color and intensity can be achieved predictably.

During your exam in Miami, you will:

  • Meet directly with Dr. Movshovich
  • Receive a full assessment of your eye health and corneal structure using advanced diagnostics
  • Complete painless tests that confirm whether your corneas meet safety criteria
  • Review photo simulations of your eyes in several KERATO® colors to understand your options

If you’ve had prior refractive surgery (such as LASIK or SMILE), please call the office before booking so your case can be reviewed in advance.

Available KERATO® Eye Colors

In Miami, you have access to the full KERATO® color palette, designed to create natural, aesthetically balanced results across a wide range of skin tones and original iris colors.

Honey Gold

French Blue

During your Pre-Procedure Eye Exam, you’ll see customized photo simulations of your eyes in several colors (usually in medium intensity), helping you compare subtle versus more noticeable changes.

Keratopigmentation Recovery Timeline

Most patients experience a smooth recovery after keratopigmentation. Here’s what a typical timeline looks like:

Immediately after surgery

Vision is blurry, and the eyes may feel scratchy or irritated.

First 24–48 hours

Light sensitivity and discomfort gradually improve with prescribed drops and recommended pain relief.

First 2–3 days

Most patients can return to normal daily activities unless instructed otherwise.

First few weeks

You’ll continue anti-inflammatory and lubricating drops as directed. Follow-up visits allow the surgeon to monitor healing and evaluate the color outcome.

Patients traveling to Miami for surgery typically plan to stay locally for the Pre-Procedure Eye Exam, procedure, and early follow-up visit. The exact timing and recommended length of stay will be discussed during your exam.

Dr. Movshovich is the only surgeon who performs LASIK or SMILE after keratopigmentation, allowing careful long-term planning for patients who want both permanent eye color change and vision correction.
