The creator of the KERATO® technique, Dr. Alexander Movshovich brings more than 40 years of expertise in surgical ophthalmology and over 1,800 successful keratopigmentation cases, making him the most experienced keratopigmentation surgeon. His work has set the standard for safe, permanent eye color change in the world.
Dr. Movshovich completed his residency in ophthalmology and his fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at Cornell University Medical College at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where he now serves as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology.
His academic career spans over two decades of research, publications, and national lectures on a wide range of ophthalmic topics, including:
This foundation in complex surgical ophthalmology informs the precision, safety protocols, and patient-selection standards used in KERATO® today.
In 2019, Dr. Movshovich founded KERATO®, the first keratopigmentation practice in the United States and the only center dedicated exclusively to safe, cosmetic eye color change.
In addition to keratopigmentation, Dr. Movshovich also performs advanced laser vision correction, including LASIK, PRK, and KLEx (SMILE). He is the only surgeon known to perform LASIK or SMILE after keratopigmentation (KTP), reflecting a rare level of corneal and refractive expertise.
In 2023, he co-founded the Keratopigmentation Club International (KPCI), an organization established to promote responsible standards, clinical collaboration, and ongoing safety research in eye color change.
In 2024, KERATO® expanded to Miami, opening a second office to serve patients across the Southeast.
Dr. Movshovich’s surgical practice is grounded in the principles of ocular health, conservative technique, and thorough Pre-Procedure Eye Exam. Every patient undergoes a thorough pre-operative evaluation to ensure eligibility and long-term safety.
In addition to his medical training, Dr. Movshovich is also an experienced photographer, a background that sharpens his eye for balance, proportion, and color harmony, an important consideration in cosmetic eye color change.
This commitment to careful screening, aesthetic judgment, and evidence-based decision making has positioned KERATO® as the most trusted option for permanent eye color change in the U.S.
KERATO® uses a femtosecond laser-guided technique to create precise stromal channels within the cornea, where medical-grade pigments are placed to mask the natural iris color. Because the procedure does not enter the inside of the eye or involve any implanted material, it delivers a permanent cosmetic result while preserving normal ocular anatomy and corneal integrity.
Patients typically complete the procedure in under one hour, with rapid postoperative recovery and minimal discomfort.
Step by Step
With more than 20 years of academic contributions, Dr. Movshovich continues to publish and lecture on ophthalmic surgery and keratopigmentation technique development. His work has been featured in national media outlets covering the evolution of safe, permanent eye color change.
Dr. Movshovich is the inventor on multiple U.S. patents related to corneal instrumentation and surgical systems used in keratopigmentation, reflecting his role in advancing both the procedure and the tools required to perform it safely.

IN THE NEWS

“People get their teeth done, they get implants and cosmetic treatments. If it’s something that could make you happier, make you look better— then why not?”

"KERATO is the first keratopigmentation practice in the U.S. that uses special lasers to insert pigments inside a healthy cornea to cover the eye’s natural color, which lies in the iris."

"The idea of keratopigmentation is to basically place the pigment inside of the cornea, which would hide, or shadow rather, the underlying color of the eye."

"It’s a safer option for those looking to permanently change their eye color because it doesn’t actually enter the eyeball or place any foreign body within it.."

"First, some numbing drops; then, the laser, and finally injecting the ink. After 40 minutes, it was all done. Very, very good. No pain—and everything was amazing!

"When Titus looks in the mirror and sees that his once-dark eyes are now blue-gray, he says, he’s grateful that he had the surgery. ‘Now, with my new color, I just look like myself.’"
